Emerald cockroach (Corydidarum magnifica)

Origin

This cockroach is found in China and Vietnam on the forest floor.

Appearance 

The emerald cockroach is a beautiful cockroach to see. The beautiful metallic green color is clearly visible. The cockroach has this color from a young age. After molting, they temporarily have a different color, but this will change back to the green metallic color in a short time. The males have wings. The head is green and changes to rust brown/green to black in the wings. The females retain the metallic green color over the entire body. Adult females are about 3 centimeters. The males are about the same length but somewhat slimmer in build.

Behaviour

This cockroach is quite active and you will regularly see it walking through the enclosure in search of food. The active behavior together with the color makes it a very nice cockroach species to see. Mating generally usually happens at night. Often also under a leaf or piece of bark. The young animals are born alive and remain under the female's abdomen for the first period. Once they have the beautiful metallic color they leave the female and go their own way. It can take up to a year for the cockroach to mature. This partly depends on the temperature and the food supply.

Food

In general, cockroaches are not very picky. They are often nature's cleaners. The emerald cockroach really likes fruit. Different vegetables can also be tried. To be on the safe side, always use organic fruits and vegetables that are free of pesticides that can be harmful to the cockroach. They also really like fruit jelly cups. 

Environmental requirements

This cockroach species likes to be slightly warmer than room temperature. Between 22 and 28 degrees is perfect for this species. Also provide some places to hide. pieces of tree bark lying on the bottom are the perfect hiding place

Housing

This species requires an enclosure from which they cannot escape. They are very good at this. The young animals can get through the smallest cracks. They can even walk upside down on slippery surfaces. The Ant Arena XL is the perfect enclosure to house this species. They won't be able to escape from here.
