Big-headed ant colony (Pheidole sp)
Pheidole is a small and aggressive ant. Like Messor barbarus, large Majors can occur at Pheidole. These have an enormous head with jaws. That is why Pheidole is also called the fat-headed ant. They develop very quickly and therefore need the right food relatively often and frequently. The lifespan per ant is much lower than other species and they are very small, so they can escape through the smallest openings. We recommend an anti-breakout oil for extra protection! That is why we find this species a bit more difficult and not suitable for beginners.
They are known for their aggressive behavior and unlike other species, a large part of the nest often goes out to catch food, great to see!
